HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii gasoline prices in recent weeks have been up more than a third from the same time last year. It is small comfort to learn that mainland prices are up a fifth more than Hawaii prices are. The state says local gas consumption is down from last year. Diesel consumption is down by half. Fewer tours and truck deliveries.
Looking ahead, a potentially interesting business conference is being set up for Friday, May 14. It's a Hawaii-Hong Kong business forum. Most local businesses with Hong Kong interests are on the mailing list for stuff like this, but if you're not, call the Hong Kong Business Association of Hawaii.
A word about last week's special broadcasts from Hilo. We appreciated the assistance we got from the Naniloa Volcanoes Resort, the Big Island Visitor's Bureau, the Hilo Farmer's Market, the Palace Theater in Hilo, Hawaiian Airlines, and Paradise Helicopter. What distinguished these parties is that each seemed more interested in helping the entire Big Island that merely promoting their own interests. I was impressed by that.
