Four remaining miners found dead in West Virginia

MONTCOAL, WEST VIRGINIA (Hawaii News Now) - Search crews have found the bodies of the four miners still missing in a West Virginia coal mine.

Rescue crews made their fourth trip into the mine Friday afternoon. They were hoping to find the miners in a refuge chamber, an airtight room that was considered the miners only chance for survival.  But just before 12:45 a.m., 6:45 p.m. Hawaii time, they discovered the workers bodies.

That brings the death toll from Monday's explosion up to 29. That is the deadliest mine accident in the United States in 40 years. Two previous search efforts were driven back by dangerous gases and the risk of more explosions.

18 bodies are still down in the Massey Energy Company mine. Authorities hope to start bringing them out Saturday morning.
