WAIANAE (HawaiiNewsNow) - Two dead bodies and a handgun. A mother makes a gruesome discovery. Her daughter and the boyfriend are dead in their Waianae apartment Friday morning.

A beautiful holiday at Pokai Bay began with police searching for answers in what they call a murder and an unattended death.

The bodies were discovered at the Pokai Bay Beach Cabanas complex around 9 a.m.

"This morning when the female didn't show up for work at the WIC office, the employees called her parents, her parents showed up here," Neighbor Garrett Frederick said.

The 38-year-old woman her 33-year-old boyfriend lived in a first floor apartment. The woman's mother saw what no mother wants to ever see.

"She found her daughter and a male and they both had gunshot wounds in the living room of the apartment," Lieutenant Bill Kato of the Honolulu Police Department said.

Neighbors say they heard an argument and a commotion sometime after 9 p.m.

"A couple of bangs were heard, the resident manager went to knock on the door, apparently the male answered the door and said that everything was fine," Frederick said.

But shortly after, neighbors say they heard two more loud bangs. Police are not releasing many details.

"They just moved in about 4-5 months ago, so don't know them too well, they live on the oceanside, so whenever me and the kids to play on the beach, we'd see them down there and say hello, but really they just moved in," Frederick said.

Family members gathered outside the apartment complex to comfort each other. Those we spoke to say they weren't aware of any problems.

"It's just a real shame that nobody stepped in because maybe one of those lives could've been saved last night, it's tragic," Frederick said.
