Howard's Business Hit: Airline seats

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The state has just put out its rolling three-month count of scheduled passenger seats to the island, putting specific numbers to airline announcements of new flights to Hawaii. And here's how it works. For April, May and June, there will be more than 3.2 seats, up 5.1 percent from the same three months last year. Honolulu will be almost two percent more capacity, or about 30,000 more seats. But the big increases are to neighbor islands...capacity up eight percent to Kauai, up 14 percent to Maui, up 16 percent to the Big Island. This includes a lot more capacity from Oakland, San Jose, Sacramento and San Diego, and also from Chicago and Portland, offering cutbacks from Seattle, Atlanta, Denver, Minneapolis and Salt Lake City.
