HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Mark Genetiano entered the courtroom to hear his punishment.

Circuit Judge Karen Ahn sentenced him to one year in prison for molesting four elderly women at the Kahala Nui Retirement Community last year.

"I wish to sincerely apologize to all concerned who, in one way or another, may have been affected by my inappropriate behavior," he said.

Genetiano worked at the Kahala Nui care home as a nursing aide.

Court documents say he pinched the women's breasts then laughed when they screamed at him to stop.

"It's not only these victims that are listed in the indictment that are the victims but the family members as well," deputy prosecutor Scott Spallina said.

He called Genetanio's actions "calloused."

Defense attorney Dan Oyasato countered that the crimes have had a lasting affect on his client, but he did not elaborate.

"What I am asking the court to do is to look at the fact that there is some hope for my client," he said.

Genetiano's victims ranged in age from 89 to 92. They all suffered from dementia.

"I deeply regret for what has occurred," he said.

The judge also sentenced Genetiano to five years probation and barred him from working in a care home or retirement center during his sentence.

He will have to register as a sex offender.
