SANTA CLARA, CA. (HawaiiNewsNow) - The UH men's volleyball team is in California tonight where Friday it faces a huge test.
The fifth-ranked Warriors play No. 1-ranked Pepperdine. The league standings are actually more important than the national rankings.
Pepperdine is tied for first in the MPSF with Stanford. Hawaii is tied for fourth.
But if the 'Bows beat the Waves Friday, they'll move into a tie for third with Northridge and be just percentage points behind Pepperdine and could move ahead of the Waves by beating them again Saturday.
"It means a lot," said libero Ric Cervantes. "If we can get them both, we'll be putting our self in position to win the league, and if we win the league we'll host a lot of home games for the playoffs and we'll have a really good opportunity to advance."
"We're playing at a really high level right now," said Hawaii head coach Charlie Wade. "I think we're playing the best we have all year, so we're going to find out if it's good enough."
Both Friday and Saturday's matches begin at 4:00 PM Hawaii time, so we'll have updates for you on the early news.
