(HawaiiNewsNow) - There's a great opportunity for budding photographers. Disney is asking students to submit photographs for the new Aulani Resort in Ko Olina. Georja Skinner from the state Creative Industries Division is here to explain.

Photo Collage Project

  • Disney's Aulani Resort
  • Student photos wanted
  • Focus on one color
  • Deadline: May 15

In a celebration of Hawai'i's most precious resource-its youth-Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has joined forces with the Hawai'i Arts Alliance and the State of Hawai'i, Creative Industries Division, for the Children's Digital Image Rainbow Project. Students from elementary, middle and high schools across the state are invited to submit their own photographs showcasing the color and beauty of Hawai'i and the magic of everyday life in the nation's fiftieth state. Approximately 150 student photographs will be incorporated into a vibrant photo collage that will be prominently displayed at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa, Ko Olina, Hawai'i, which is scheduled to open its first phase in 2011.

Who: Elementary, middle and high school students from across Hawai'i are invited to participate.

What: Students are encouraged to take photographs that showcase a distinct, individual color of the rainbow and reflect the beauty of Hawai'i-especially scenes found in and around their daily lives, such as nature, the surrounding environment and local culture.

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts will choose approximately 150 of the student photographs for a photo collage that will be displayed at Aulani, Disney's first destination resort on O'ahu.

This vibrant installation, comprised of photos of varying sizes, will reveal the full spectrum of the rainbow when viewed from a distance.

Where: Students interested in submitting a photo for the Children's Digital Image Rainbow Project should visit www.hawaiiartsalliance.org/schoolphotocontest to learn more about the project and the submission process. All images must be submitted online.

When: The submission deadline is May 15, 2010. The completed photo collage will be featured prominently at Aulani upon the scheduled opening of the first phase of the resort in fall 2011.
