Fire at Waipahu home

WAIPAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Firefighters say no one was hurt, but two dogs were killed in a house fire in Waipahu this morning.

The first calls to emergency crews came in just before 7:00 a.m. on Kahuamo St.  Firefighters had it under control within a half hour.

No one in the family was home at the time.  But the daughter of the couple who lives there says they are heartbroken by the loss of their two pets.  One, named Angel, was her anniversary gift to her parents.

Flames, smoke and water have damaged about half of the home.

Damage is estimated at $300,000.  The cause has not yet been determined.
