BELLINGHAM, Washington (HawaiiNewsNow) - The PAC West champions from BYU Hawaii opened the division two basketball tournament on Friday with a rematch against Seattle Pacific University. When the two teams met back in December, the Seasiders lost to the Falcons but at the time BYUH's best player, Lucas Alves, was sidelined with an injury.

Well Alves is back and he contributed right away. That's Alves with the fast break dunk. Seasiders up 4 to 2 early. Minutes later, Marques Whippy will dish to Alves. The big guy cans the jumper. BYU-Hawaii maintains a slim lead and it wasn't all Alves. This is Rory Patterson nailing the three pointer. He scores 12 points. Garrett Sandberg helped out by scoring 10. This inbounds play ends with a Sandberg hook. Seasiders enjoyed a 5 point lead at halftime.

Their plan in the second half. Go right back to Alves. So it's Whippy to Alves who gets another slam dunk and the lead is 4. But Seattle Pacific wouldn't go away. Chris Banchero led the Falcons with 22. That's him drilling the jumper. It was a four point game with under 30 second to play when BYUH breaks the press. Jett Chang with the ally-oop to Alves and that's the ball game.

BYU Hawaii wins it 76-72. They avenge Decembers loss to Seattle Pacific and they move to the second round thanks in great part to Lucas Alves who had 20-points and 12-rebounds.
