Fire destroys Palolo home

PALOLO (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu firefighters estimate damage from a Palolo house fire at $600,000. The two-story home ignited at 1801 Ninth Avenue just after 1:30 Thursday morning.

When crews arrived, the entire second floor was engulfed.

Three women lived inside, all were home at the time but got out safely before firefighters arrived. Two were treated for heat and smoke exposure, and were released.

Firefighters rescued a pet bird in its cage. It was unharmed.

About 40 firefighters from eight different companies had the flames out by 3:03 a.m.
