Colleen Hanabusa makes U.S. House run official

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Colleen Hanabusa has officially joined the race, for the U.S. House of Representatives.

The state Senate President filed her papers to run for the 1st Congressional District at the State Office of Elections in Pearl City.

Hanabusa is the fifth candidate to do so.

Democrats Ed Case, Rafael Del Castillo, Philmund Lee, and Republican Charles Amsterdam have filed papers.

City Councilman Charles Djou is also expected to run.

The special election to fill former Rep. Neil Abercrombie's seat will be mail-in only. Ballots must be received by the special election date of May 22.

Abercrombie stepped down February 28 to focus on his campaign for Hawaii's Governor.
