KAILUA (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A fire has destroyed a house in Kailua on Humuula Street near Keolu Drive.  A family of four lived in the house including two adults and two teenagers.  They were at a party and were not home at the time.  No one was hurt although the family's dog is missing.  They hope the pet made it out a doggie door that led to the outside.

A neighbor reported hearing an explosion right before seeing the flames.  So many neighbors heard and saw the fire they flooded the 911 lines with emergency calls.

"I heard an explosion and all of a sudden we saw fire and flames come out and it was all smoky," said Debbie Wong, neighbor. "They were shooting water at it but I guess the electrical started going off, so yeah it was just really scary."

Neighbors sent us video through our Connect Now Line.  The fire started just after 7:00 pm and was extinguished an hour and a half later.

Fire investigators have been called.  At this point it's unknown if it was accidental or arson. A full investigation is pending.

The fire was visible for several blocks.  The home is a complete loss.  Initial damage estimates place the loss at $400,000 although that is likely to go up significantly.

The American Red Cross has been notified to help the family.
