PEARL HARBOR (HawaiiNewsNow) - The color guard set the stage at the premiere of HBO miniseries "The Pacific." Hundreds of people gathered aboard the USS Missouri Thursday night to catch a glimpse of the highly-anticipated 10 part miniseries about World War II.

Actor James Badge Dale, who plays Private First Class Robert Leckie in the miniseries, was excited to be aboard Mighty Mo, "We started filming 3 years ago --- and it's amazing to be here tonight. Now it's time for us to hand off the film and see how it does."

The miniseries is produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. The story follows three Marines, all brothers, who fight battles through the Pacific during WWII, from Guadalcanal to Okinawa.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann was on hand for the premiere, along with some HBO executives. But, the big honor went to the two dozen World War II veterans. Melvin Oferdahl is 94 years old and fought in Iwo Jima, "All we did was fight, and we killed a lot of people...and that's not good".

Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg did not attend the Hawaii premiere. This is the most expensive miniseries ever made --- it cost $195 million. The miniseries debuts on HBO on March 14th.
