HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The 2011 Pro Bowl will be played at Aloha Stadium January 30, the week before the Super Bowl.
The NFL and Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) had agreed to bring the Pro Bowl back to Hawaii in 2011, but the league did not announce until Tuesday whether the game would be played before or after the Super Bowl.
The 2010 Pro Bowl was played in Miami the week before the Super Bowl.
Some fans were critical of the game being played before the Super Bowl, because doing so eliminated any chance Super Bowl participants would play in the Pro Bowl.
But Mike McCartney, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Hawaii Tourism Authority, told Hawaii News Now he thinks playing the Pro Bowl the week before the Super Bowl will be good for the state's number one industry.
"I think it will give us a lot more exposure and a lot more excitement. It will be before the season is done. Football will still be very exciting in the American Psyche. Hawaii's exposure in the North American market will be priceless and that will be a great opportunity for us," McCartney said.
The Pro Bowl will also be played in Hawaii in 2012, but a date has not yet been set.
The NFL has not decided where the 2013 game will be held.
