Chile's president appealing for international help

CHILE (HawaiiNewsNow) - Chile continues to be rocked by aftershocks. More than 90 have been reported since Saturday's devastating earthquake. Rescuers have been searching through the night, desperate to find survivors. So far, the death toll has topped 700, and with many still missing that number is expected to rise. Looting has broken out among survivors who are focused on getting by. In an effort to curb that, Chile's president Michelle Bachelet says the basic essentials will be given away for free and a dusk to dawn curfew is being enforced.

"I think it is a necessity," a Chile resident said. "We don't have water. We don't have anything to eat."

President Bachelet is appealing for international help. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will visit Chile on Tuesday as part of her five-nation Latin American tour.
