Girl Scouts: Hawaii not affected by cookie recall

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Girl Scouts Hawaii Council has informed Hawaii News Now that the shipment of Girl Scout Cookies due to arrive in Hawaii any day now will not include batches of Lemon Chalet Creme cookies voluntarily recalled.

Some consumers on the mainland complained that certain boxes of the cookies had a strange taste and smell.

After testing, Little Brownie Bakers company, a manufacturer of Girl Scout cookies, says some batches of those cookies have oils that may be breaking down, causing the strange smell and taste but say they are still safe to eat. Again, none of the affected cases of cookies will be distributed in Hawaii.

Girl Scout troops on Oahu are expected to pick up their cookies at Aloha Stadium on Thursday, March 4th. Cookies are due to hit the streets the next day. Over one quarter-million boxes of cookies have been ordered for Oahu alone with another 100,000  boxes on the way to the neighbor islands.
