HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Sentencing has been set for April for a Hawaii Air National Guard member convicted of soliciting sex from a child over the Internet.
Matthew Lewis, 34, testified on Friday that he arranged to meet a 14-year-old girl at the McCully Zippy's to have sex with her, but then realized he couldn't go through with it. He says he didn't commit a crime because he never actually stopped at the meeting place.
A jury had the case for about an hour before rejecting his defense and finding him guilty of electronic enticement of a child.
State prosecutors say Lewis had multiple sexually-explicit conversations online with an undercover officer who was posing as the teenager.
