HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Dozens of military veterans closed ranks at the State Capitol. Many of them carrying large American flags.

They were there to encourage lawmakers to take up House Bill 2311.

The measure would compel community associations that forbid it to allow homeowners to erect flag poles and fly large American flags outside their residences.

The bill stalled in the House Housing Committee.

"As a veteran I am outraged by decisions like this. Our whole veterans program is outraged by this. And we're all here as one," said Paul Vasquez who served six years in the U.S. Navy.

"This flag here not only symbolizes what we are and who we are but it symbolizes what we're blessed with," said retired Air Force Master Sgt. Harold Alejandro.

Rep. Kymberly Pine, (R) 43rd-Ewa Beach, Iroquois Point, urged lawmakers to recall the bill from the Housing Committee and have it referred to another committee.
