Wanted Wednesday: Jody Demeritt

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - He's been busted for crimes including drug use and theft. And now U.S. Marshals are trying to track him down for violating his probation in a counterfeit case.

Jody Demeritt is wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service. But that's not stopping his activity in cyberspace. This fugitive has a Facebook page and a Twitter account.

"It is not unusual. Some people don't know, don't realize that law enforcement is out for them, or they have a warrant out for their arrest," said deputy U.S. Marshal Donna Diaz.

Demeritt was born in Vermont, and his rap sheet dates back to the mid 1990s.

"He has actually had a past of drug use and also theft," said Diaz. "He is wanted for violating his probationary conditions. His underlying charge is counterfeiting."

The 41-year-old is known to frequent the Kalihi and Kapiolani areas. Authorities say lately he has been at several Internet cafes.

"He is one of our more significant fugitives here in the district, primarily because of his ability to disguise possibly his identity," said Diaz.

Demeritt is 6'2" and weighs 265 pounds. He has brown hair and green eyes. His aliases include "Taxi Joe" and "Karate Joe."

"He does have martial arts experience, so if anyone has seen him out or knows of his whereabouts, please contact the Marshals Service," said Diaz.
