Winter Olympics begin tonight!

VANCOUVER (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Winter Olympics kick off in Vancouver tonight. It's the first opening ceremony  held in an indoor stadium, and team USA will have to overcome some injuries.

Lindsey Vonn was able to get a quick practice in Thursday to test her bruised shin before training was canceled because of a storm. She is expected to be back on the mountain again on Friday, as is American Stacey Cook, who took a spill Thursday. There have been some tough breaks for team USA early on, but athletes were hopeful things would start to look up

"Just wanna at least get a feel for the course and terrain," said Vonn.

"People said it was a good tumble, but she got up. Hopefully she's doing all right," said Steven Nyman of the U.S. ski team.

As for the opening ceremony, it's expected to showcase Canada's roots. More than 80 nations will take their places Friday night as the games finally begin. And remember, we are your home of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Coverage begins Friday night at 6:30 on KHNL.
