Honolulu Zoo chief resigns

Stephen Walker Stephen Walker

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - After just a year on the job the director of the Honolulu Zoo has resigned. Stephen Walker says he's leaving for personal reasons and that a search for a new director has already begun.

"We appreciate the outstanding service Mr. Walker provided to the City during the last year," said Sidney Quintal, director of the city's Department of Enterprise Services. "We thank him for helping to guide the Zoo through an exciting time, and we wish him well."

The zoo is in the middle of a multi-million dollar renovation to its entrance, a move designed to lure more people to its prime Waikiki location.

Assistant director Tommy Higashino will take over on an interim basis.
