KAILUA (HawaiiNewsNow) – A driver involved in a critical crash in Kailua on Tuesday apparently had a seizure, according to Honolulu police. Emergency crews rushed to North Kalaheo Avenue just before 6:00 AM Tuesday.

Investigators said a Kailua woman was behind the wheel of a Chrysler Sebring that was traveling north-bound when it ran off the road. Paramedics took the woman to the hospital in critical condition. Her 40-year-old husband, who was in the passenger seat, was listed as stable.

"A 45-year old female driver apparently had some sort of seizure and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle hit the stone wall, continued along the stone wall before coming to rest by a tree," explained Lt. David Nilsen of the Honolulu Police Department.

Police blocked off part of North Kalaheo Avenue while they investigated. Authorities said there were no signs that speed, drugs, or alcohol were involved.
