TOKYO (Hawaii News Now) - Early Friday morning Toyota's president apologized for the massive global recalls over sticking gas pedals.

Akio Toyoda is promising to beef up quality control. He says the company is setting up a special committee that he will head himself. It will go over consumer complaints to try to find a solution to its widening problems.

Here in the US, a hearing will be held next week to investigate whether the automaker and U.S. transportation officials acted quickly enough.

"It's not Toyota's reputation Congress is worried about," said Rep. Darrell Issa, (R) California. "A House committee plans to hold a hearing next week to investigate whether the automaker and US transportation officials acted quickly enough."
