Intelligence officials focus on national security

WASHINGTON (HawaiiNewsNow) - Washington focused on our nation's security today, after new threats of possible Al Qaeda attacks on the U.S. Those claims came from the man accused in the botched Christmas Day bomb plot.

U.S. intelligence officials said, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab is cooperating again, after being persuaded by family members from Nigeria who are in America for his arraignment. They said, he is giving useful information about his training and contacts in Yemen, and that an attack on the U.S. could happen soon.

"In the next 3-6 months: high or low?" asked Senator Dianne Feinstein, (D) California.

"An attempted attack the priority is certain I would say," said Dennis Blair, director of National Intelligence.

"I would agree with that," said Leon Panetta, CIA director.

"Agree," said Robert Mueller, FBI director.

Officials fear terrorists are getting smarter and quicker, and say more recruits are individual terrorists armed with simple devices like the one used in the attempted Christmas Day bombing.
