Uh thrills in 5-set win over UC Irvine

MANOA (HawaiiNewsNow) - After claiming the first two sets of the match (30-28, 30-20) 9th ranked Hawaii stumbled a bit against 7th ranked and defending national champion UC-Irvine Friday night.

The Anteaters rallied behind 29-kills by Carson Clark to take sets three and four convincingly 30-27, 30-26.

In the 5th and decisive set, UH staved off 4-match points before Jones Umlauft capitalized on his career high 37-kills, to put UH ahead 19-18.

On the very next ball, Clark was stopped at the net by Matt Rawson and Josh Walker (who added 23-kills) to give Hawaii a 5-set victory.

UH improves to 5-3, 3-2 in MPSF play, UCI falls to 5-5, 1-4.

Both teams play again on Saturday, first serve flys at 7pm at the Stan Sheriff Center.
