HONOLULU (AP) - The Hawaii Senate has deferred a vote on the nomination of former U.S. Attorney Ed Kubo to become a Circuit Court judge. Senate President Colleen Hanabusa said Friday senators will revisit the issue next week.

Republican Gov. Linda Lingle appointed Kubo to sit on the Circuit Court for Honolulu. He received endorsements from the Hawaii State Bar Association,

public defenders, city prosecutors and mayors. But he was damaged during his confirmation hearing by critical testimony from two assistant U.S. attorneys, his former subordinates.

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 3-3 on the nomination Thursday. Committee Chairman Sen. Brian Taniguchi voted against Kubo. The majority Democratic Senate is expected to address the nomination Wednesday.
