HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The mother of an Oahu toddler, who was thrown onto the H-1 Freeway two years ago, is scheduled to testify at the accused killer's trial Thursday.
There was a pre-planned break in the trial Wednesday.
Matthew Higa is accused of murdering 23-month-old Cyrus Belt by throwing him off a freeway overpass in January 2008. A two-ton delivery truck then ran over the child.
The dead boy's mother, Nancy Chanco, and her boyfriend, Shane Mizusawa, are set to take the witness stand when trial resumes Thursday.
The defense argues the toddler was already dead when Higa tossed him, and that Mizusawa gave inconsistent statements to police.
