Hawaii's tourism industry on rebound

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - After a three month increase in Japanese visitors Hawaii's tourism industry appears to be on the rebound.

Arrivals in December were up two-and-a-half percent from 2008. The Hawaii Tourism Authority reports there was a $5 million rise in total spending, to $955 million.

The largest increases were in visitors from Canada and the US West coast. It's good news for an industry that struggled all year. Overall for the year, visitor numbers were down 4.5 percent from 2008.
