Viloria Upset by Tamara

Mandatory challenger Carlos Tamara (21-4, 15 KOs) dethroned IBF junior flyweight champion Brian Viloria (26-3, 15 KOs) via twelfth round TKO early Saturday afternoon at the Cuneta Astrodome in Manila, Philippines.  After three slow rounds, Viloria landed some heavy body shots in round four.  The heavier-handed champion had the advantage as the bout progressed.  After a big round for Viloria in the eighth, the bout turned when Tamara rallied in the ninth and tenth and rocked the dead-tired Viloria in the eleventh.  Tamara continued the assault in the twelfth and got the stop when referee Bruce McTavish stepped in to protect the exhausted and defenseless "Hawaiian Punch."  Time was 1:45.  The win by Tamara scuttles a possible showdown between Viloria and unbeaten WBO 108-lb. champion Ivan Calderon.
