KAHALA (HawaiiNewsNow) - An attack in a quiet neighborhood turned a Kahala home into a crime scene. Police received a 911 call about some suspicious noise just before 3:30 AM Thursday.

"The neighbor, the lady upstairs, she heard crying and the dog barking so she woke up her husband and so when he heard it, he called 911" said neighbor Leona Weightman.

"We got a call some noise and dogs barking and stuff and the officers came here and they found two unconscious people in the house, apparently beaten" said Sgt. Herb Schreiner of the Honolulu Police Department.

Paramedics took a woman in her 80's to the Queen's Medical Center. Her live-in caregiver, who is in his 40's, suffered critical injuries.

"They're very devoted to each other and we're just saying prayers that he's gonna pull through and last we heard she was getting a CAT scan and that she was conscious" said Weightman.

Police interviewed neighbors and searched the area -- even bringing in their helicopter. investigators looked for clues inside the home and later removed bags of evidence. they also hope a security camera near the front door -- can shed some light on this case.

"At this moment, we don't know if it's a home invasion or if somebody knows one of the people and did something but basically we just have two people unconscious. No suspects." Said Schreiner.

And with the attacker still on the loose, nervous neighbors are on edge.

"There's nothing like this here in this neighborhood. We all know each other. We all look out for each other. It's nothing like we're used to" said Weightman.
