HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The next few games are crucial for the UH men's basketball team. Thursday night, the 'Bows host New Mexico State. Then Saturday, they'll play Louisiana Tech.
Take a look at the conference standings and you'll see those are the top two teams in the WAC. Hawaii is tied for sixth.
The games are not just important for the team as it tries to solidify it's position in the conference tournament. The games could also help solidify Bob Nash's status as head coach.
Nash is under contract through next season. But if he wins 18 or more games this year or next he'll have an additional year added to his contract. Nash has 12 more games this season to pick up the nine wins he needs to reach 18.
"I don't make a lot of that," Nash said. "I mean I want to win because I want to win and not because I have a contract and if I don't win, you know, I'm not going to have a job. You know I don't worry about those things. I just go out and try to win the games, try to teach my guys best as I can to prepare them for basketball, for academics, and life after basketball."
Nash can also have that extra year added to his contract if he leads the 'Bows to the NCAA tournament or the NIT tournament either this season or next.
The New Mexico State game tips off just after 7 PM Thursday night.
