Basketball 'Bows survive nail-biter vs. San Jose St.

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - After a rough 2-game slide on the road, the Rainbow Warrior basketball team returned to friendlier confines Sunday.

But would it be enough to pick up their 2nd WAC win of the season?

Well, Hawaii and San Jose State would make it exciting enough.

UH had a one point lead with less than 30 seconds remaining.

Then the Spartans got some life. The steal leads to the dunk by Chris Oakes and San Jose takes a one-point lead.

With 10 seconds to go, Hiram Thompson does the smart thing, he takes it to the rack and gets hammered.

So he goes to the line for two. He drains them both to give Hawaii a one-point lead.

So the Spartans have one last shot. But their prayers will not be answered.

The 'Bows escape with a 68-67 victory.

They improve to 9-9 and 2-3 in WAC play.

Next up for Hawaii is New Mexico State on Thursday night.
