HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - And then there was one. A pair of local golfers entered round 3 of the Sony Open Saturday with a chance to move on to Sunday play, but only Dean Wilson would survive the cut.

Wilson shot a 1-under par 69 Saturday to up his score to 3-under par, well above the 1-over cut line.

The Castle grad did not post spectacular numbers but for a PGA player who missed 13 of his final 19 cuts in 2009 and failed to earn his PGA tour card in Q-school, the chance to begin 2010 with a paycheck and a respectable performance speaks volumes.

"If i can just get the shots a little closer, be a little more precise with my putts, get some good breaks, it's out there to shoot some good scores. depending on where they put the pins. it's possible, so I'm excited to get up and work at it again tomorrow." says Wilson.

Meanwhile, the dream opportunity to play in Sony's weekend, came to an end for Hilo Golf-Pro, Kevin Hayashi. After carding a birdie on 18 in round 2 to just make the 1-over cut, Hayashi posted a 5-over 74, leaving him at 6-over through 54-holes, and eliminating him from weekend play.

Round 4 tees off tomorrow with Ryan Palmer and Robert Allenby sharing the lead at -11.
