Woman critically injured after pulling mother from burning home

LIHUE, Kauai (HawaiiNewsNow) - A woman suffered burns to her face and shoulders early Wednesday morning while helping her mother escape from their burning home.

Firefighters responded just after 3:00 AM Wednesday to a report of a house fire on Puanani Street. The fire was under control by 3:30 and fully extinguished an hour later.

The occupants of the home were transported to Wilcox Hospital, treated for smoke inhalation and released. The daughter was then sent to Straub Clinic on Oahu, where she is listed in critical condition.

Officials estimate damages to the home and its contents to be $450,000, including two vehicles in the enclosed garage. No nearby homes were damaged.
