Iconic Maui hotel sold

HANA, Maui (HawaiiNewsNow) - State labor officials confirmed Thursday that hundreds of hotel workers on Maui will be laid off. That's because the owners of Hotel Hana Maui are selling it to a mainland firm. The buyer was not identified.

The sale will affect approximately 200 employees. But there is good news. It's believed the new owners will offer employment to most of those workers.

The sale is expected to close in late March. The hotel opened in the remote east Maui town in 1946.
