HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Attorney and Waialae-Kahala Neighborhood Board member Richard Turbin is running for the Honolulu City Council seat being vacated by Charles Djou.

Turbin announced his candidacy at Kapiolani Park Thursday. He says he chose that site to contrast the beauty of the area and the disorder caused by the growing population of homeless people.

The former president of the Hawaii State Bar Association pledged to be a "citizen-councilman" who will tackle traffic and infrastructure problems, help clean up beaches and parks, and create a better business climate.

Djou has thrown his hat into the race for Congressman Neil Abercombie's seat.
