KAILUA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Firefighters raced to find a elderly woman believed to be trapped inside her burning Kailua home Wednesday.

The fire was reported at about 9:45 a.m. at a home on Ulunahele Street.

Three of the four people in the home had escaped unhurt, but no one could find Vernandiva Agas. It was her bedroom that was on fire.

"I went check there twice to look for her," said Andres Acob, Agas' grandson. "But I couldn't find her. I went inside and the smoke was all in there. The thing was burning."

When firefighters arrived they found Agas was in back of the house doing yard work. She was not hurt.

A four year old girl who lives in the home was the first person to notice the fire. She alerted the others and they called 9-1-1.

Firefighters contained the flames before they spread beyond that one bedroom.
