HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A former computer teacher accused of trying to set up a sexual meeting with a child is hoping to strike a deal with state prosecutors that will allow him to plead guilty to a lesser felony charge.

Ryan Kawamoto is charged with first-degree electronic enticement, which carries a mandatory 10-year prison sentence. He appeared in court for a plea hearing Wednesday.

Investigators say the 30-year-old was caught in an undercover sting on the Internet. He's accused of going online and performing sexual acts and having explicit conversations with whom he thought was a 14-year-old girl.

Officers say they arrested him when he arrived to meet the child in person at a business in Moiliili.

At the time of his arrest, Kawamoto was the program manager for Ohana Komputer, a non-profit agency that teaches children computer skills.

His attorney, Randy Oyama, asked the judge to postpone the plea hearing, saying the parties are still discussing a possible deal. The hearing is set to continue February 3rd.
