Mesa, parent of go! airlines files for bankruptcy

ATLANTA (AP) - The parent company of go! airlines has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. But Mesa Air Group says its go!-Mokulele Hawaiian joint venture with Mokulele Airlines isn't included in the bankruptcy filing and will run a full flight schedule.

Mesa is hoping to shed planes it no longer needs. It runs 130 aircraft and is a major commuter carrier operating flights as Delta Connection, US Airways Express and United Express.

In its U.S. Bankruptcy Court filing in New York, Mesa listed $975 million in assets and $869 million in debts. Mesa and ten affiliates were included in the petition.

Passengers are unlikely to notice any difference. Mesa says its operations are expected to run normally during the restructuring process.
