Man who died in fall from Pali overlook identified

NUUANU PALI (HawaiiNewsNow) – The Honolulu Medical Examiner has identified the man who died Monday morning after an apparent accidental fall from the Nuuanu Pali overlook as Simon Cho of Honolulu.

Investigators say Cho, 81, was visiting the attraction with his wife when he crawled through the metal railings and walked to the edge of the cliff, where he slipped and fell.

Rescuers from the Honolulu Fire Department rappelled approximately 200-250 feet down the face of the cliff where they found him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

It took responders almost three hours to bring his body back up to the highway, as they had to carry him over one-half mile through thickly overgrown forest.

An autopsy is still under way to determine the exact cause of death.
