If you have time for only one movie, choose Up in the Air, starring George Clooney. It's the most enjoyable movie I saw this year.
Of course, there's also the groundbreaking Avatar with its spectacular 3D visuals. Too bad about the clunky script.
Another good option is the highly entertaining romantic comedy It's Complicated, starring Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin.
The talented Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin are Jane and Jake, a once married couple who have been divorced for 10 years. She's still single; he's married to someone much younger. Against her better judgment, Jane allows herself to be charmed into bed with Jake. What makes things even more complicated is Steve Martin as Adam, a divorced architect who's also interested in Jane. All this plays out in a smart, funny script that almost everyone will enjoy.
For those of you who prefer a romance that's more serious and artistic, I highly recommend The Young Victoria, starring the wonderful Emily Blunt as England's Queen Victoria before she became the elderly ruler we know from the history books.
The Young Victoria is a strong romantic drama with beautiful cinematography.
