Interim Chief Elections Officer selected

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A staffer at the Office of Elections has been chosen to lead it, after current chief elections officer steps down tomorrow.

Scott Nago was selected today as the interim chief, following Kevin Cronin's announcement he will resign at the end of the year.

Nago was endorsed by four county clerks, and will lead the office while a search begins for a new chief.

It is a challenging time for the Office of Elections.

Cronin reported earlier that budget cuts slashed staff, and already was having an impact on plans for the big 2010 election. The governor's office, a seat in the US Congress, and possibly the Honolulu Mayor's office will all be up for grabs, without an incumbent as a candidate.
