MANOA (HawaiiNewsNow) - The inaugural Hawaiian Air Diamond Head Classic title goes to USC. The Trojans upset the 20th ranked Rebels from UNLV in Christmas's championship game 67-56. USC's largest lead was by 19 points in the second half.
The third place game was much more of a contest with four ties and eight lead changes between Hawaii and Saint Mary's. UH had to play without it's leading scorer. Roderick Flemings sat out with a bruised knee. Saint Mary's with five players in double figures led by Omar Samhan. He had 24 points. As a team the Gaels scored 30 off 16 Rainbow Warrior turnovers.
Dwain Williams doing his share to make up for those mistakes. His three pointer made it 37-33 Saint Mary's at the half. Willaims had a career high 36 points, netting 29 of those points in the second half. In the end the Gaels prevailed 84-75.
