Spreading Christmas joy at Kapiolani medical center

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Christmas is just around the corner. By now the gifts should be wrapped, the tree decorated, and the milk and cookies ready. But there's one more thing. Christmas carols! Amy Kalili catches up with one group of carolers spreading Christmas joy at the Kapiolani medical center.

Enjoy the merriment of Hawaiian Airlines carolers. Wearing bright green shirts and decked out with bells, guitars, and an ?ukulele, these Hawaiian Airlines employees were on a mission.

"It's our annual Christmas caroling blitz. It's actually part of our sales and marketing thank-you effort for all of our passengers and clients," said Debbie Nakanelua-Richards Employee, Hawaiian Airlines.

Each December, Hawaii's oldest airline sends some of its employees to carol their way through the islands.

"We spend about three weeks and we go to Maui, Kaua'i, Hilo, Kona as well as O'ahu," said Debbie.

This isn't a select group of Hawaiian Airlines tenors, altos, and sopranos. These are the guys in cargo, the flight attendants, the sales agents. And the numbers aren't rehearsed.

"We actually don't practice for it but I guess we've been doing it for so many years. That's one of the best things about Christmas caroling; it's more about the spirit than it is about the perfection of one's pitch," said Debbie.

But this group had both, with extra spirit on top!

"We kind of come bursting through the doors with bells blaring, Christmas carols, so at first it's kind of shocking. When we do go in it just kind of changes the spirit and the mood of the place," said Debbie.

From us Merry Christmas and best wishes to you all!
