Business Report: Budget plan

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Here's more on the governor's budget plan, some specifics on jobs that would be cut to balance the budget.

The state AG department and the USDA Hawaii field office share operations. Governor Lingle proposes to cut 30 plant inspectors and eliminate the Ag statistics branch altogether.

A number of jobs are on the chopping block in the state department of health. Accounting and general services would take hits, too.

The budget calls for cutting 1587 permanent jobs and nearly 300 temporary positions. The job cuts will save twice as much money as the next biggest thing, which is withholding revenues now sent to the counties.
