HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - An Ewa Beach teen accused of raping and murdering his neighbor wants a judge to decide his high-profile case instead of 12 jurors. On Wednesday, Vernon Bartley appeared in court and signed forms waiving his right to a jury trial.

Bartley was 15 years old when he allegedly killed Karen Ertell, 51, in her home in May 2007. The juvenile suspect was waived to adult court to face the charges.

Circuit Judge Virginia Crandall set the trial for the week of January 25, 2010.
