Niuolahiki introduces new way of learning Hawaiian

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Have you or someone you know been having a hard time following the subtitles on our Hawaiian language segments every morning? Well, you're in luck. Amy Kalili introduces us to a new way of learning Hawaiian language at your own pace.

There's no strict time schedule to follow. It is great for busy people. And since it is web-based, it can serve learners everywhere.

Niuolahiki is for all those who are interested in learning Hawaiian, whether they are here in Hawaii or anywhere around the world. Niuolahiki's new self-mastery course was created especially to support Hawaiian immersion parents.

They can learn sentence patterns and vocabulary to help them continue speaking along with their keiki. While all Punana Leo preschools and some K-12 immersion schools require a parent to attend weekly language classes, this online class is great for other parents.

For those busy parents who want to learn but can't make these classes, this provides another venue for them to learn the language.

The interface is very user friendly. Each unit introduces a new sentence pattern and includes practice lessons and closes with a quiz to pass before going on.

Niuolahiki is another program helping the 'Aha Punana Leo move closer to its mission of a living Hawaiian language by reaching out to learners in a broader community.
