HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - We're about halfway through December now, so let's check arrivals by air. The count topped a quarter million over the weekend and is running two percent ahead of last year at the same juncture.
Arrivals topped 20,000 on both Friday and Saturday. Mainland arrivals are down to Oahu so far this month. The increase came from other countries, and mostly Japan. In other words, this was the Honolulu Marathon effect.
Japanese arrivals topped 4,000 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and total international arrivals topped 5,000 on the same three days. This puts Japanese arrivals up eight percent from last year and non-Japanese foreign arrivals up twice as much.
By the way, last Thursday the annual arrivals count went over 7-million, but subtract returning locals and I'd say there aren't enough days left in the year to reach 7-million actual visitors.
