HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The world's first microCSP solar electric farm opens this week at Keahole point near Kona airport. MicroCSP uses parabolic mirrors that harness and magnify solar power collection.
Sopogy, a seven-year-old Hawaii energy company, says the Kona facility will also be the largest solar array of any sort in the state. The Hawaiian dedication for the project will be Thursday.
The project will generate enough power to fill the electric needs of more than 250 local homes, which otherwise would require the import of 2000 barrels of oil a year, leading to 6000 metric tons of carbon emissions over 30 years.
