Business Report: Sports tourism

HONOLULU (HAWAIINEWSNOW) - The June Jones Bowl could bring a boost to Hawaii sports tourism.

Suppose the average mainland fan who flies here for such a game, brings one other person along, say a spouse. Let's further assume that they stay just one week.

The average room rate in Waikiki has been around one $150 a night, and a visitor easily spends an equal amount on restaurant meals and shopping. $300 times five days times two people is $3,000.

Ten couples is $30,000, a hundred couples is $300,000, and a mere three hundred thirty four couples, not even two planeloads, puts you over $1 million spent here in Hawaii because of a single game.
